Jim grew up in Pensacola, Florida and now lives near Lovettsville, Virginia, not far from the Ball’s Bluff battlefield. He is a past president of the Loudoun County Civil War Roundtable and is co-founder and past chairman of the Friends of Ball’s Bluff Battlefield. A former Civil War reenactor, he has done both Union and Confederate artillery and infantry impressions. His tactical study of Ball’s Bluff, A Little Short of Boats: the Battles of Ball’s Bluff and Edwards Ferry, is widely considered to be the definitive work on that little fight.
