Description

Awoken by his friend Owl in the quiet hours of the night, a boy ventures out to his special place in the forest. Owl is waiting there, along with Oak and Moon, and together they teach the boy about the sacred power of nature to connect all things. Filled with striking watercolor illustrations and poetic text, Wake is a quiet celebration of our bond with the natural world.

"WAKE is a book to cherish and share with a child, as you, too, are invited into the interconnected world Nature offers us all." —Barbara Gray, Around Cincinnati, WVXU

"Rough splashes of paint give the pages a hazy, dreamlike quality that dovetails with the whispers of the oak and owl the boy hears . . . . Though not a restful story, per say, it’s a contemplative reminder of the intense connections one can make with nature." —Publishers Weekly

"Watercolors from Leah Busch complement the boy’s quiet inner musings as he expresses his love, respect, and wonder at the world around him, marveling as the northern lights and star-filled sky softly fade, and embracing the dawning light of the morning sun." —Foreword Reviews

"Dougherty's poetic text appeals to the senses, immersing readers in the child's experiences." —Kirkus Reviews
